CILECT, the International Association of Film and Television Schools, includes 180 leading film schools in 62 countries on six continents. Since 2006, CILECT has been producing a competition among member schools, in which the Outstanding Film is selected by democratic vote. The competition reflects the finest cinematic achievements by young students from around the world. The outstanding films bear out the collective predilection and educated appreciation of the global community of teachers and students, the future generation of international filmmakers. The School for the Arts of Sound and Screen at Sapir Academic College offers a course – "CILECT Films", where we viewed 256 films that competed this year (109 feature films, 83 documentary films and 64 animated films), ranked them and made a joint selection.
Cinema South Festival, in collaboration with the School for the Arts of Sound and Screen offers a special program this third year in a row in which selected CILECT films will be screened. This year we will screen two feature films, one documentary film and four animated films - for the year 2021. These were curated by myself, in an attempt to create a balance among feature, documentary and animated films, between the collective selection of the students, the films that I deem especially important and intriguing for film students and the final ranking of the international CILECT competition by all CILECT member schools.
