Still Standing – Sapir Academic College Vows to Rebuild
Prof. Nir Kedar looks pensive but determined as he surveys the human tragedy that has struck his college – and the unfathomable destruction of the surrounding communities it serves. Kedar – who assumed the presidency of Sapir Academic College just a year ago – suddenly finds himself in the eye of a maelstrom, leading a vital institution at the heart of the area most impacted by last week’s murderous onslaught. “Our academic community is bloodied but not beaten,” explains Kedar, whose college is located adjacent to the town of Sderot, a stone’s throw from the border with Gaza. -

A giant Israeli flag is proudly displayed on Sapir College’s campus.
University and college buildings across the country, from Tel Hai in the North, to Sapir in the South, were illuminated in the colors of the Israeli flag this evening (Tuesday) at 7:30 p.m., in an effort to show support for the security and rescue forces, as well as all citizens and residents of the State of Israel, which is undergoing a continuous war. "People Asleep and the Water as Well" has now won the Oscar-qualifying prize for best short documentary at the San Fransico Jewish Film Festival, short-listing it for the Academy Awards. -

The clip might have changed history, but it was quickly exposed as an AI-generated fake. As was an image of former President Trump scuffling with police, and a litany of other false content involving celebrities. For better or for worse, artificial intelligence is here to stay. At Sapir, we know that tomorrow’s leaders must learn to use this technology for good while defending against those who would exploit it with malevolent intent. -

Children, Society and the Tube
Few people alive today can recall a childhood without Television. The “tube” (often uttered by parents together with an unflattering rhyme) has literally shaped how kids around the globe perceive reality. But what children experience while fixated on the small screen is only part of the story. Children’s TV is a vast industry, operating within broader cultural, ideological, political, and economic contexts, unique to each country and changing over time. A new book by Dr. Yuval Gozansky, Chair of the Communications Department at Sapir College, gives us the big picture. -
