The collection will open with a debut screening of the animated documentary project by second year students.
These films were made in the Animated Documentary course in which Ricardo Werdesheim takes the students on a journey in the footsteps of a current topic. The films made in this course are invited to be screened at major festivals worldwide.
Afterwards several films by first and third year students will be screened – these short films are often just as intriguing and original as the graduate films, perhaps because the filmmakers can dare to explore new work styles and stretch their personal and professional boundaries without the commitment that goes along with a refined project.
2022 Animated Documentary Project – "118"
An animated documentary course taught in year 2 in which a film is made that attempts to understand and give a voice to the invisible people in society. Animation is a way in which to approach subjects that are difficult to tackle in regular films due to their sensitivity, the need to maintain anonymity and the vast importance of the subjective aspects that provide an in-depth understanding.
This year we are focusing on women's shelters, namely the experiences, thoughts and emotions of the women and the caregivers in NAAMAT shelters.
The project, now in its 10th year, has seen much success. It is supported by the Gesher Multicultural Film Fund and screened at the Cinema South Festival every year and at other local and global festivals.
Project Facilitator and Editor: Ricardo Werdesheim
Soundtrack Design and Music: Dror Hai Shiman
Research: Liana Mimran Osadon
"118" is a collection of films that documents the experiences, emotions and thoughts of the caregivers at NAAMAT women's shelters. The stories shift from the initial contact on the hotline to the treatment with the social worker to the legal aid the women are granted. It is through these moments that we obtain a layered and profound perspective of the women. Through the eyes of those who have seen it all, we grasp the complexity of the trauma, the anguish these women endure and the loving support they obtain, always out of compassion, never out of pity.
The film was made in cooperation with NAAMAT and the kind assistance by the women of the organization.
