USA House of Representatives' Majority Leader, the Hon. Steny Hoyer meets Sapir President Professor Shai Feldman

The Hon. Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) headed a 14-member delegation visiting the western Negev on Wednesday, February 23. In the framework of the visit, Leader Hoyer held a lengthy conversation at Kibbutz Alumim with Sapir College President, Prof. Shai Feldman.

Their meeting covered a wide range of issues related to Sapir College, the security situation in the Gaza Envelope region and along Israel's other frontiers, U.S.-Israel relations including the prospects for U.S. funding of additional Iron Dome interceptors, the challenges facing Israel's Naftali Bennett-led government, the nuclear negotiations with Iran, and the escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Leader Hoyer and Prof. Feldman concluded by discussing possibilities for holding additional conversations in Washington, DC.

Sapir, the academic nerve center of the entire Western Negev, will devote most of its NIS 200 million in government rehabilitation funding to scholarships, enabling more students from diverse backgrounds to study in the region. Its flagship initiative will be free tuition for all first-year students.
