Honorable President (retired) of the Supreme Court, Justice Esther Hayut will teach a unique workshop on "Law and the Holocaust" at Sapir Law School. Sapir's Law School is proud to announce that the Honorable President (retired) of the Supreme Court Justice Esther Hayut will teach a unique workshop on "Law and the Holocaust" in the next academic year (2025) at Sapir Law School. Honorable President Hayut began her judicial career in 1990 as a judge of the Magistrate's Court in Tel Aviv. -

From Trauma to Resilience
Tens of thousands of Israeli soldiers have seen combat in the Gaza Strip since last October, but not all of them leave the war behind when they come back home. Many suffer combat and operational stress, reactions that could lead to PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and even suicide. Now, cutting edge research by Dr. Leah Shelef, Dean of the School of Social Work at Sapir College, is seeking the most effective way to treat – and prevent – these dangerous outcomes. -

A Powerful Commitment to Sapir’s Future
The State of Israel is gearing up to rebuild the communities of the Western Negev, and Sapir College will play a key role in the effort. The government’s Tkuma Directorate for the reconstruction of the Gaza Envelope has approved a special NIS 200 million budget to strengthen the college's programs for students. This investment demonstrates a long-term commitment to Sapir as the social and economic nerve center of the Western Negev. Sapir is the largest employer in the area, with a payroll of 1,300 and an extensive network of local suppliers who bolster the regional economy. -

Sapir's School of Social Work Excellence Scholarships
Partnership with the Jewish Community in Florida After the horrific events of October 7th, we learned that the Sapir community is not just limited to Otef Yisrael (Gaza Envelope)/Western Negev or Israel. We now have a growing global Sapir community, people who care deeply about our students and our region. Trudy and Seth Fine, a wonderful couple based in Florida (cousins of a faculty member), joined together with their community at Temple Kol Ami Emanu-El and Rabbi Uriel Romano to raise funds for Sapir College. -

JDC Visit at Sapir College
This past Monday, April 1, 2024, Sapir College hosted the Chair of the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Amy Bressman, together with the JDC-Tevet team, including: Rani Dudai, CEO JDC—Tevet; Adi Blunter, Director Life Long Learning; Ilan Levene Director of Strategic Partnerships. Sapir’s President, Professor Nir Kedar briefed the team on the impact of October 7th on students and staff, and how the College with philanthropic partnership responded. -

Open Conversation with Sapir’s Lishay Lavi
Her partner, Omri Miran, was kidnapped on October 7th, and is being held in Gaza Lishay Lavi, Director of the Mechina Pre-Academic Programs at Sapir briefed the College’s faculty on her ongoing journey to free her partner and all the other abductees. Lishay’s beloved partner and father of her two daughters, Omri Miran, was kidnapped and has been held in in Gaza for over 5 months. Courageously and openly, Lishay shared with the College’s faculty, her family’s moments of horror on the morning of October 7th, at her home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz.
